I woke up somewhat early this morning because i'm still adjusting to the timezone i guess, but decided i'd try and get up Lycabettus Hill. Also known as the "Hill of the Wolves," the hill provides a spectacular view of the city. However, you have to get up there very early otherwise you run into conflict with the Athenian smog, which is not so bad as some places i have been to, but it certainly ruined a spectacular view. I wasn't really in the mood to climb the hill (though i may go back later and try and beat the smog by going earlier) so i rode the funicular to the top. All in all, it was a very short trip, with taking pictures and seeing the small church at the top taking all of 30 minutes. It was certainly worth it as the view gave me a perspective of the city. It is immense to say the least. It extends for miles in every direction, very similar to LA. There is a theater built up on top of the hill as well, but it is only open in the summer (very disappointing). The church was small and simple, but worth going into and viewing some of the religious iconography of the Easter Orthodox faith. All in all, a short but interesting trip. Tonight, I'm off to a taverna for some classic Greek food and atmosphere.
